Arteta: ‘Arsenal has to challenge for every trophy’

Follow all the action live as Southampton host Arsenal in the FA Cup fourth round at St Mary’s this afternoon.

Arsenal have seen a significant uplift in their form since then, though, with five wins in their last six games. They did still require extra-time to defeat Newcastle in the third round, with Emile Smith Rowe coming off the bench to save the Gunners’ blushes. However, their league fixture against the Magpies earlier this week ended in rather more emphatic fashion, with a 3-0 victory and two goals for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang likely to provide a notable boost in confidence. Follow all the action live below:

Southampton 0 – 0 Arsenal

15 mins: Willian is played in behind and his cross into the box is poorly cleared and falls for Cedric. He shoots but leans back on his shot and puts it over the crossbar.

Close! Che Adams drives at the Arsenal backline and takes the ball around Gabriel. He’s in on goal and tries to slot the shot into the far bottom corner only for Leno to dive to his right and push the ball wide. Good save from the Arsenal goalkeeper.

12 mins: Arsenal win a corner of their own but it’s a wasted opportunity. Nicolas Pepe’s delivery isn’t the best and Armstrong heads it clear on the near post.

Arsenal regain the loose ball and play it up to Gabriel Martinelli on the inside left. He cuts inside and takes a shot that is blocked on the edge of the box.

The teams make their way out onto the pitch at St. Marys. This should be a good one, Southampton haven’t conceded in four of their last five matches whilst Arsenal are on a run of five clean sheets.

Ralph Hassenhuttl told BT Sport:

“I hope it is a strong side and we can compete with them! It is an important competition.

“Arsenal have a bigger squad and can change a little more. We are struggling with injuries but hopefully we can be strong.

“It is a different game [when they play Arsenal again next week] – I know it is not that long in between – but both are important for us.”
